A Local non profit radio and TV media group at Canley Vale
"Vale Vision Community Radio and TV Association Incorporated"
Is asking the Federal Government and the opposition for
a a local radio and Television station for the Fairfield
City council area
.
Also important for us "We have the equipment and staff to go on
the air now on FM and TV will follow later" says
2 Double V cordinator
Doug Moody "
Fairfield City has the highest number of residents who were born
overseas in New South Wales and the highest number and proportion
of language-other-than-English speakers in Australia.
"In Fairfield City we have a community of more than 190,000 people
and as the fifth largest city in Australia we have special needs which are not being served and can not be served by any other station"
The city consists of 27
suburbs occupying 102 square kilometres." thats a huge area
without a true local radio and Tv service" says Doug
"We will be broadcasting local sport, and as well as English Daily Programs and also in Cantonese,Mandarin,Vietnamese,Spanish,Cambodian,Arabic.
and other languages not catered for.
Also important for us are programs for vision impaired spekers
of other langauages as our name of our association Vale Vision
implies" says Doug.
" No other station does that at the moment"
. Tourism and History are on the 2 Double V
schedule as well as English Language teaching Programs and
Youth Modern Music Programs."We are concerned that with
the youth in the Faifield Council region the English-speaking
youth population is only 31%
Compared to those with a Non English Speaking
Background being 69%
"As reported elsewhere In terms of identity , a lot of our
young people say they are Australian, but to other people who are Anglo, they don’t see them as Australian If you look different and you don’t fit into that stereotype of what Australian is, but they consider themselves Australian but then somebody looks at them and tells him ‘ah, you are a Lebbo’ or whatever the word is – and to him, sometimes they take it as an insult, he thinks he is an Australian of Arabic origin but when somebody gives him another name, to him this is very upsetting”.
" We must ensure that English is promoted to unify us all.and that is one of the main items on our mission statement and as a community association we are open to ideas" said Mr Moody
"Vale Vision Community Radio and TV Association Incorporated" received recently a large amount of equipment sourced from the NSW labor council, the previous operators
of Radio 2KY. The group meets each week in a Housing Commision meeting Room at Canley Vale and is now making submissions to
the relevent authorities.
