Treasurer cannot now return to 'business as usual'
MOST TALKED ABOUT HOWARD V COSTELLO
WE now have the extraordinary spectacle of the two most important people in the Howard Governnment – the Prime Minister and his Treasurer – effectively branding each other as liars.

Well - John Winnie and Peter the Penny Counter have really got themselves in to a bit of a tiz haven't they. Neither of them will be able to work efficiently alongside each other from now on. Not after accusations of this nature anyhow. This is probably going to be the end for Howard most of all but in reality, both should go.

Federal Treasurer Peter Costello says a smooth leadership transition would be in the best interests of the Liberal Party.more here: - www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200607/s1684473.htmThis is pathetic. Howard won't budge and Costello's jumping up and down like a 5 year old who can't have McDonalds for lunch. Oh well, if Howard does hand it over 'Costello' won't be there long. They've just blown it for their party.

Costello’s Career To End – Howard to Make Him Governor General John Howard is said to be ready to put an end to Costello’s professional life by making him Governor General. Such a move would make Costello instantly forgotten about, helping Howard to retain control of Australia and, eventually, with George Dubya Bush, the world. The current Governor General would have to step aside. The PM is expected to approach him with this suggestion just as soon as he remembers who he is. Meanwhile Howard’s future is less secure with the appointment of Jose Ramos Horta as East Timor's new Prime Minister. Here is a man who has won a Nobel Peace Prize, whilst the Australian PM can boast only a swimming certificate from Canterbury Boys High. Some backbenchers are calling for a Nobel prize winner to lead the country. The last Australian winner was Barry Marshall who won a Nobel prize for medicine. Although not good on the economy, Marshall would provide the government with a clear policy on peptic ulcers.

Howard Promised Tracky Dacks, Not Leadership!
John Howard says he promised Peter Costello his Vodafone tracksuit in a meeting 12 years ago – not the leadership of the Liberal Party. The Prime Minister said he was thinking of getting some lycra bike pants like Tony Abbott's, in which case he'd pass on the tracksuit as a hand-me-down.
The Prime Minister said Costello had obviously misheard this as an intention to pass over leadership of the party. He said today that the leadership is not Costello's “personal plaything”. “It's my personal plaything” he said.
John Howard had been impressed with Matt Shirvington's career and considered the use of lycra to win the gay vote. But he was advised against the idea in case it reinforced his standing as “Little Johnny" Howard. Clearly there wasn't room for too much transparency in government.
In the last few days John Howard has called the Treasurer a "sanctimonious, arrogant piece of terd", with Costello referring to the PM as a "boring and insignificant old woman who was about as productive as a bowel complaint". Both have said this difference of opinion will not stop them working together.
But there are signs that the Prime Minister is set for retirement. He has been renovating his house in Wollstonecraft and has been spotted having a passport sized photo taken for his bus pass. Janet has signed up to the local bridge club. Pundits believe Howard could be out of the Lodge by the end of the century.
John Howard has been Prime Minister since he was 14. His face has since grown to a stage where it is in proportion to the size of his glasses.

Voters believe Costello but prefer Howard as PMA new opinion poll suggests more people believed Treasurer Peter Costello than the Prime Minister during the recent leadership stoush, but John Howard is still most people's preferred prime minister. read more here: - www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200607/s1687872.htm
