It’s an expensive time to be a monkey these days with banana prices soaring further than ever before.
The recent shortage of the familiar fruit has led Queensland’s consumers to truly appreciate the wonderment of the golden banana, which was so often taken for granted.
Bananas have become a goldmine for those farmers who still have crops.
After cyclone Larry wiped out majority of north Queensland’s banana crops, farmers are relying heavily on Western Australia’s bananas.
But this does not stop prices, which are currently around $12 a kilo, but have been reported as up to $2.50 for one banana in Sydney. These are still set to rise as production decreases during the cooler months.
The price is ultimately defined by how much money the consumer is willing to pay, and whether they are prepared to fork out 2.50 for a banana rather than a chocolate bar, or any other kind of snack.
Many customers have stopped buying this once popular fruit in favour of other fresh produce.
A price recovery will hopefully come within the new season, but experts believe that promotion will be needed in order to drive consumers to buy bananas again and if they come back in season will people still want to buy them?
Yes we have no Bananas !!!!!

One question I would like answered is: - Who is making the profit from Bananas at their present high price, the growers or the retailers?
