Many may remember the ‘Natasha Ryan’ case, the 14 year old girl who supposedly disappeared from her Rockhampton home and was assumed dead, in fact murdered, and was then found five odd years later hiding in a cupboard at her boyfriends place. Serial killer John Leonard Fraser was charged with her murder.
Well ‘Natasha Ryan’, now 21, and her boyfriend ‘Scott Black’ 28 – have appeared in court in Rockhampton in relation to the charges surrounding her disappearance. Ryan and Black are each charged with making false representation causing a police investigation. The pair's lawyers say their clients have no case to answer.
Apparently Black is already serving 12 months for perjury. Ryan's lawyer John McKinness told the court the false representation charge was aimed at people who made deliberate misrepresentations such as faking their own deaths or abduction. He said Ryan's case as a teenage runaway was not in the same legal category. The trial has been set down for another four weeks.
The fact is though that both were aware that a person, although guilty of other offences, had been blamed for Ryan’s disappearance and supposed murder. Ignoring that, they continued the façade for a very long time which must have caused her parents and family members enormous grief. It also created a massive amount of work for Police.
This is no crime of passion or any other sinister excuse. This is out and out deception and lies by a young teenage couple who were old enough to know better. They should be punished and forced to re-pay the costs the Queensland Government Authorities incurred.
