"THE latest results of dioxin tests on Sydney Harbour fish show unexpectedly high levels in species experts thought would be relatively free of toxins."
In effect the article again explains worrying levels of dioxin in Sydney Harbour. The chronology of failed attempts to clean up the dioxin legacy in the lead up to the Sydney Olympics over 7 years is traced here by ecology action:
Sydney Harbour dioxin
But what the web based Telegraph story does not appear to mention is that people are blissfully still fishing and presumably fishing to eat out of Sydney Harbour.
I know because last Monday I saw two on the wharf next to the Sydney Dance/Sydney Theatre complex on the water side of Hickson Rd.
Similarly I warned a bloke and his mate walking to the harbour side with fishing rods last Sunday evening on my delivery rounds. They showed no signs of knowing about the dioxin threat quite obvious to media obsessives like myself.
I suggested out the window to some up market theatre gowers in their finery at the time as I drove away that "I wouldn't eat it" and the fair lady in her gown strolling with her bloke agreed with a bit of a shudder at the ignorance we had just witnessed.
I hasten to add, it almost certainly is the Iemma govt's duty of care to let people proximate to Millers Point or similar that such a recreation is not really on anymore, unless its kiss and release, like the famous tv fisherman Rex Hunt.
Good to be Back Tomm
