ABC Online reports: Govt 'open-minded' on Uranium Waste. _______________________________ The acting PM, Mark Vaile, will not rule out Australia taking back nuclear waste from Uranium it exports. PM John Howard is in Washington where energy-related issues are expected to be discussed. Mr Vaile has told Channel Nine the Govt is yet to address what should be done with nuclear waste. We need an open mind on all these issues, "Mr Vaile" said. If we expect to extract benefit from selling the product then obviously there is a role in terms of management through life both in terms of how it is used, what security circumstance it's used in other countries and then the question of waste come into being, he said. Earlier Mr Howard would not speculate if Australia would be asked to take the nuclear waste of other countries which was generated using Australian uranium. ______________________________ I guess one big question is - WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO DUMP IT?

There is a certain logic to this, we sell the stuff so we ought to take back the waste.
GM,Ford, Holden et al make cars etc so they should take back their product when it is worn out.
All food producers ought to be responsible for the disposal of excreta as well as sharing the cost of general garbage disposal because of packaging etc. We could go on.
There is a simple solution to the dilema over uranium waste disposal. Don't sell the ore in the first place and then there can be no problem, real or imagined, for Australia.
