The first Newcastle radio ratings for 2008 have been released today.
The results went like this, thanks to the courtesy of Neilsen Media, via Media Spy:
NXFM - 23.5% (+ 1.7%) KO-FM - 18.8% (+ 2.1%) 2HD - 15.1% (- 0.9%) ABC 1233 - 10.4% (- 2.1%) Triple J - 6.9% (+ 2%) NEW FM - 5.6% (- 2%) ABC Radio National - 2.5% (+ 0.6%) ABC Classic FM - 2.5% (+ 0.4%) ABC Newsradio - 0.8% (+ 0.1%)
Other "non-rating" Stations - 13.9%
All I can say about New FM's ratings is, ouch! They've been beaten by Triple J in the overall ratings for the first time in history! How the once high-rating station has fallen to a new low!
The strong Austereo duopoly of NXFM & KO-FM are riding high in the ratings, taking out the top 2 positions in the market & performing quite closely with one another, unlike in Canberra, where there's a bigger gap in the ratings between the two stations within the one Austereo/ARN duopoly, with FM104.7 rating 22.9%, while MIX 106.3 rated 12.6%.
