Turkey: what a nation of rugged souls, then and now - the First World War was a time for the Turks to show their mettle; and they certainly did.
The predominately Christian lands of the UK, France, Greece, Italy, Serbia, Russia and various satellite nations (including Australia and New Zealand as part of the British brigades) all declared war on Moslem Turkey at various times between the kick-off in 1914 and the end of hostilities in 1918.
The Christian Armenians were, without a doubt, a worrying Fifth Column to the Turkish leadership of the day and, there seems no question that the Turks took deadly steps to address the threat from within.
It was a frightful time for most of the globe’s citizenry and, as the old saying goes, “all’s fair in love and war” - you do what you have to do; that’s the way to survive.
It is all very well for those to vent their spleen against the Turks of so very long ago when, right now in time, we of the west, we, predominately of the Christian/Judaic persuasion seem to have lost all sense of decency when it comes to those of the Islamic or other creeds, evidenced by the current wars of attrition being waged, on the most suspect and spurious of grounds, against those of Iraq and Afghanistan whilst hurling snarling abuse at the likes of Iran and North Korea etc.
We, we of the west, have grandly/smugly developed the idea that we kill, we destroy, we pillage and burn, but, gosh, we only do it out of concern for those we seek to annihilate and thieve from.
Such one-eyed piety is sickening to observe or be a part of especially when the best we can do to assuage our guilty consciences is hark back to a war which occurred nearly a century ago.
Between 1918 and today we who opine so savagely about others of yore have been responsible for some of the most barbaric conduct - certainly equally as bad as that attributed to the Turks or the Armenians of the distant and fast retreating past
…
So the Europeans don’t want a bar of Turkey joining the EU, but they love a bar of Turkey joining the NATO.
Sure, the Turks aren’t good enough to do business with Europe, but they are certainly good enough to die for the Europeans.
The hypocracy is astounding, especially when the ones accusing Turkey are the same ones who had committed numerous genocidal episodes on pretty much every other race in the world.
