Are People being Served as a resident of Fairfield
by whats provided
on your radio?
It is a Question that we should ask ourselves from
a perspective of being the most average typical listener
in the local LAP area...and the area we wish to serve
being the Fairfield City Council area. Fairfield as the 5th
largest City in Australia has no Community Radio Station
Cinsulting the Program guides of other stations
on their websites
and listening you can only hear a variety of stations
that are either "fringe
or not relevent" to our residents,
Here 60.1% of do not have English
as a first language
So only 40% of programming
being broadcast is relevant to our community
It should be made clear that we think
community radio is not about doing something for the community but about the community doing something
for itself,
ie. owning and controlling its own
means of communication.''
Fairfield residents are not likely to travel
to Liverpool of Bankstowen to join stations
not in their geographical council area.
The Program model to be used by
Radio 2 Double V for a Fairfield radio service provides
a useful and reliable programing strip with 7 day availability in
that 2 V V
(1) will broadcast in the languages most
likely to be understood
by the vast majority of residents
and listeners in the Fairfield City Council Area
(2) 2 Double V Fairfield as a sub metro
community station
Will broadcast
these Programs at the same time and every day
This can not be done by other stations
who by virtue of no studio in Fairfield
are instead
providing programs for Blacktown
or Liverpool etc or the
wider Sydney audience or broadcasting
at that time in a language not understood
( English) by the majority of our listeners in Fairfield.
This means that we can discuss local matters
which will be understood with more
quality and focus by our 2 V V listeners..
For the first time also 2 V V will teach english/
Stratistics shoiwn are disturbing.
Poor English skills hamper those who are keen to pursue higher education and contribute to the growth of this country. Many in our City are disadvantaged by the lack of courses available
locally to improve their English skills. 2VV will broadcast and market "learn english Programs" The lack of English classes is a great drawback. This issue has been a major concern for a long time. It severely disadvantages the life chances of our residents,

Demographics
A large portion of Fairfield's residents are migrants and their
descendants, notably from former Yugoslavia and more recently from
Cambodia, Laos and especially Vietnam, the latter concentrated around
the suburb of Cabramatta. Large Assyrian, Italian and Latino
populations also reside and have been established in Fairfield and
surrounding suburbs such as Bossley Park, Wetherill Park and
Smithfield. In recent years an influx of African has begun in the
area. Fairfield is considered one of the most ethnically diverse
suburbs in the entire world.
The most common languages other than
English spoken at home here are: Vietnamese 17.0%, Arabic 6.4%, Assyrian 6.1%, Cantonese 5.6% and Spanish 4.3
Fairfield City is home to approximately 182,000 people. The City of
Fairfield is Australia's fifth largest city and the third largest in
the Sydney metropolitan area (after Blacktown and Sutherland). While
Fairfield City has a comparatively young population with many young
families, the greatest growth is occurring in the number of older
residents, those aged 65 years or more.
Fairfield is known as one of the most culturally diverse regions in
Australia, with residents speaking over 70 different languages. The
region also attracts a
significant portion of newly arriving migrants. Fairfield's motto
"Celebrating Diversity" reflects its culturally diverse population.

ACMA QUESTION
To what extent do existing broadcating services heard in fairfield

There is no local information on FM 2000-,SBS,2MFM etc

. Many groups are isolated and individuals have to go out
of their way to gain access to information. Regular updated
information is
not available, our group will establish programs in set times so
minority
groups can rely on fresh information to connect with the community.
2GLF is a Liverpool station and SWR FM
is a Blacktown station and.
Neither in reality serve Faifield or Program
to suit the local Fairfield Community
if at all their own..
Fairfield continues to take the majority
of immigrants coming to NSW and despite
constant pleas for extra English courses,
these residents will have to struggle to gain
language skills necessary to allow them to
participate in the life of their chosen community
and country.
