Gee, I'm getting good at this copy and paste stuff.
Here's something tom posted elsewhere, I thought I'd drag it home so we unwashed types can have a chew on it to.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guns are some of the most dangerous things people can own. Apart from our own country Over 32,000 people are killed every year by guns In the U.S. alone, 78 million people own or carry guns. That is almost 40% percent of the U.S. population. Because so many people have guns and because so many people die from them, the campaign against guns sparks major controversy. We all admire many things about US culture but guns are not one of them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's look at those stats, 32,000 people killed (this includes homicide, legal intervention, legitimate self defence, accidents and suicide) annually out of a population of 78,000,000 gun owners.
This of course means EVERY gun owner WILL be involved in a fatality involving the use of a firearm once every 2,437 years (and six months). Hmmmmm................
If we look at homicide the figure is about 9,800 annually. This means every gun owner will commit murder approximately once every 8,000 years.
Tom, I've got some real bad news for you, I'm overweight, I smoke and eat red meat, I work in a stressful environment and play with dangerous things like fishing boats, one of my grandfathers was dead before he turned fifty, dad put his cue in the rack at 74 and mum had a hereditry heart condition, I aint gunna be around that long!
