SW broadcasts of local radio in WA,
I am not a member but I was browsing on the web and found the DXing.info site and just doodled around till I came to the post about the SW broadcasts of local radio in WA which ended in the 90s. I thought the following mght be of interest to your forum.
Back in in 1984 I moved from Perth to Adelaide and being a bit of a footy tragic i missed the old WA football league a lot (this was years before the AFL came into being). I had a Phillips transistor which had SW capability and never thought much about it but one Saturday afternoon the thought occured that maybe I could pick up the WA broadcasts. I bought some wire, wrapped it around the whip, strung it up a tree twiddled the dial and low and behold there was the late George Grljusich calling the footy! The wonders of radio! I spent many a happy Saturday out in the shed (except it was bloody cold) and the only problem was that in the late afternon (abt 6 Adelaide time) just when the footy was getting exciting there wSW broadcasts of local radio in WAas a stronger signal over the top...
That was the start of a bit of interest in SW and I have collected a Sony CRF5090 (that looks fantastic works wonderfulley but is too heavy to move) and sangean ATS 909 for portability. I am also a bit of a scanner so last August when I was up the Canning Stock Route I tool my AOR 8200 and on Saturdays just punched in the numbers and listened to the AFL on Radio Australia!
You can't beat radio!
Cheers
Ross
