Howard Locks in 2006 Anyone who doubts John Howard's mastery of politics and tenacity to hang on would be well-advised to consider his reaction to next year's handover. By hurling his party off a precipice in the polls he ensures Costello won't even want the job - at least for another 12 months. Now we find that he forced Costello to appoint a tax-dodger to the Reserve Bank (House on the Hill, 1/12/05). What amazing forethought and discipline for Howard to bury this "sleeper" nearly three years ago, timed brilliantly to "go off" just months ahead of any leadership challenge. By souring the prize and crippling his rival, Howard has locked in 2006. He really is the consummate political animal.

LENNIE & KEITH "Gutless" is one word - BULLY is another. JWH is a very clever man. Clever does not make him a good man. He uses the "Ransburger Pivot" in his replies constantly, and answers pointed questions in a contorted manner that avoids the sharp end then twists to suit his agenda.
In that way he is smart, but he and his kind are utterly ruthless. They lie when it suits them, and there is no accountability.
The entire system of governance in this nation needs replacing. My preference is for a system of managaement and citizen participation along the lines of Switzerland - which happens to be the closest thing to a democrasy that I know of on earth.
If there are others, let me know. Thoughts on this are appreciated. Peter Cunningham
