The latest figures collated by the Bureau of Meteorology show Tasmania has recorded one of the driest months of June ever. The bureau's senior forecaster, Barry Becker, says rainfall has also been low in the main population centres. He says Launceston Airport recorded just 10.6 millimetres for the month. "Launceston Airport in particular has record its lowest rainfall total for June on record," he said.
"Hobart, we've also had close to a record - the second driest June on record with 6.2 millimetres of rain."
Down here in the Riverina it's as dry as. We have just had two days of brief rain periods but it must have been the driest June in recorded history.
