Just in case the day comes where you *do* have to hand in your collections, the fine folks in the US Army created an excellent FPS game with the emphasis on realism, teamwork and tactics, you can find it here
www.americasarmy.com/
The number of registered players has just topped the 4 *million* mark, quite an achievement.
This is free to download AND free to play, there are also a multitude of community sites, plug-ins and the likes, including VOIP clients for when you want to play as a team.
Be aware though, attempting to use cheats/hacks/scripts will earn you a global hardware ban via evenbalances' Punk-buster anti-cheat software.
Any of you with military knowledge or back-ground will be impressed by the level of detail in both weaponry, terrain, physics and sound.
before you can join a server and play against real people, you first have to complete a series of off-line training missions comprising of:
*Basic marksmanship (M16-A2)
*Advanced marksmanship (M24 Remmington and M82 Barrett)
*Advanced weaponry (M203, M249 S.A.W. and grenades)
*Obstacle course
*Medic (Where you actually sit a multi-choice test on Basic 1st aid)
*Parachute (Drop tower and a night jump)
*Enemy/Ally munition/vehicle recognition (another multi-choice test)
*Stealth, escape and evasion (quite difficult)
*Shoot-house (with a 9mm/M4 with flash bangs and pop-up targets.)
The game is unique in that it discourages *Rambo* tactics while actively encouraging teamwork, completion of map objectives and *fair* play... for example, engaging an opponent will earn you 10pts while hitting a team-mate or Non-combatant will cost you up to -400 points.
The client is about 8-900MB, so be prepared for a big download. Luckily there are several excellent AU based mirror sites to pick from so shouldn't be all that bad.
You will need broadband and 128MB of video to get the best out of it, but most modern comps will run it without a hitch.
If anyone wants further info, advice, contacts or in-game tuition, send me a pm, I'd be happy to advise you.
