Islamic school in Camden
Ok, does anyone else think that this is ridiculous?
What a racist country we are! Who are we to protest against an Islamic school? Education is one of the most important things that we can give to children, why should we deny Muslim children that right? The same right that you would demand for your child.
One woman commented "But why can't they go to school with our kids?" Well in response to that the curriculum that we teach in schools is written by the hegemonic group, obviously Islamic culture is not considered in this (many other cultures are not considered either). So this makes it inequitable for these kids to be taught in 'normal' schools. Many people would say, "well they moved to this country, they should assimilate" WELL no we are a multi-cultural country and we should cherish that.
I would like to ask people who are protesting against this school to put yourself in their shoes...how would you like it if you were told you had to put aside your own culture and belief's and 'convert' and that you couldn't build a school for pete's sake. That's a lesson we should have all been taught.
I am currently at university studying teaching and feel disgusted that people can actually think that this type of behavior is okay, all children have the right to an equitable education, ALL children. If you don't think these kids have a right to this then please look up the Social Justice Goals of the Adelaide Declaration. It makes me sick to my stomach to see this racism and ignorance displayed by the people of Australia.
Food for thought: Unless you are native to this country you yourself "flew here". Think twice before calling yourself an 'Aussie' and denying others the right to call themselves the same
