Aged Pensioner’s Cost of Living Stresses
« Thread Started on Apr 14, 2008, 8:41pm »

Betty Moore has been fighting for pensioner’s rights for some time now and she shows no sign of stopping.

Betty will travel to Canberra to participate in the 2020 summit this weekend where 1000 leading Australians will debate and develop ideas for Australia’s future across 10 subjects.

Radio host Steve Price and 2UE are sponsoring Betty to attend the summit, after she drew attention to her cause on Mr Price’s morning show earlier this year.

“Just that one phone call has made so much happen, I am just the catalyst for these problems to be heard.”

Betty was also a special guest at the Steve Price and Radio 2UE forum on Aged Pensioner’s Cost of Living Stresses held in Parramatta last week.

Betty was the only representative from regional and rural NSW at the forum and Steve Price opened and closed his morning broadcast by speaking to her.

“I heard some tragic stories from people down there, and I found none of the city people or politicians had any idea about the transport crisis we have here.”

After the summit on the weekend, Betty will feature on Steve Price’s radio show on Monday morning to discuss the outcomes of the 2020 Summit and also present a summary of the Steve Price forum.

“So many people have been so supportive of me, radio, print media, television have all covered these issues and will keep doing so until something changes, Tony Windsor has also offered me his support at the 2020 Summit.”

Betty said she was concerned there was not enough regional representation at the 2020 summit, with only 88 regional people attending the summit.

“I don’t think it’s good enough that there will only be 88 rural and regional people attending out of 1000, I want to get my points across and make people take notice of the struggles pensioners face every day.”

Perhaps ,but does that mean it's adequate .As married old age pensioners we are having to go into our Rollover ,even havng allocated pensions and nearly the full old age pension.Wages has risen enormously since were golden handshaked and the % of Super of a gross wage in the 60's to the early 90's doesn't amount to all that much .We also are one of the lucky couples I might add.
It's a measure of a Country's wealth how it looks after it's old people
