Hi does anyone listen to Shortwave Radio much anymore? With people able to hear overseas radio on the internet why would you bother? I have a Sony radio in the car that picks up 2 S.W.bands and I,ve listened at times and mostly you can,t understand what you are listening too .So what,s the point?

The internet isn't everywhere! So in some places SW is still the main way services are delivered. Granted SW here is Australia isn't a big thing. Concidering the fact we are a long way from most of the population in the northern hemispher. So SW signals travel a long way to get to us. But most of Europe for example SW signals get you a seriously large audience given the closeness of different countries.
Then there are some countries where the "traditional" broadcast bands are SW ones not the 521 to 1602 khz we use (or most of the planet).
Granted SW is getting thin on the ground but DRM is the amunnition for it to fight back. All those funny noises are mostly people jamming them from getting into their countries. But if it's just the weak and fading issue then DRM will make it like your Austar Pay TV. The signal wil be A1 up until the decoder can't deal with the errors or bad signal and just glictch and stop. Like when a srorm blocks the sat signal on Austar. That would also mean that until that happens the service would sound really good and could possibly give normal radio a bit of a run for it's money
